There are no accidents or things of happen-stance when it comes to God. This is most notably seen in the life and times of Gospel quartet Heartland Harmony.
What seemed like a pure coincidence ended up turning into something that God had mighty plans for.
Formed in 1998, Heartland Harmony was birthed by Randy Toler and Jeff Board.
“Randy owned a music store that I managed,” mentioned Jeff Board, “and one day while killing time around a piano, we were asked to come sing at a church. We sure enough went and sang, and now we have Heartland Harmony.”
The group was eventually rounded out by adding Sam Zicafoose on bass and Ben Simpkin on baritone/lead, in addition to Toler’s tenor part and Board’s lead/baritone.
Just like it wasn’t an accident that the group formed, it wasn’t an accident that each member individually had experience with music as well.
Each member of the group has been brought up in church, and they were all active in their home church music ministry from early ages.
“Although there is quiet an age gap between the members, we all have lead similar lives,” mentioned Randy. “I sang and played piano with my family in church. Jeff sang and played the guitar with his family and a mixed group in the church. Ben has done solo work in his home church since he was a kid, and Sam has been a member of several different mixed groups through the years.”
With similar past experiences in music, it only makes sense that the guys all have a similar approach to ministry as well.
Jeff continued, “The whole reason we do what we do is to spread the word of Jesus Christ and his love through southern gospel music. Southern gospel music is a way for us to share the word and have fun doing it. For us there is no better music than southern gospel music. Our motivation is to see souls saved and also to see this ministry prosper.”
“Our proudest moment of all in this ministry is to have seen souls saved in part because of the way God has used us,” mention Randy. “If there never is that big hit or number one song, it wont matter because we have already seen souls saved. That is what we are on the road every weekend trying to do – to bring lost souls to Christ.”
With a unified focus, Heartland Harmony is on the right path to success in both ministry and music.
Jeff mentioned, “We see this group expanding in the short future; we have had a great couple of years with our first Top 100 song and many other things. We have expanded our ministry to Canada and other countries, and look forward to the things God has in store for us in the years to come.”
